Thinking in Evolutionary Terms

FIFTY SHADES OF ORGANISATIONAL MUMBO JUMBO AND WHY IT'S TIME TO TRANSMOGRIFY HR
'transmogrify - verb, to transform in a surprising or magical manner'

Two hundred thousand years of biological evolution have given us the physical intelligence to survive against all odds including floods, fires, ice ages and predators. The last one hundred years however have given us stress, obesity, poor mental health, drug addiction, violence and fake news. And HR departments.

Our genes have not caught up and our management 'science' has not caught up either. Daily we are bombarded with unscientific new-age mumbo jumbo which is equally unfit for purpose. (Tribes, scrums, mindfulness - the list is long.)

Adam Grant has shown us the extent to which we are biologically 'unfit for purpose' in our city-based, sitting-on-our-backsides-all-day modern lifestyles.

We need a scientific revolution in how we manage people and organisations, their energy, cultural DNA, and applying scientific and evolutionary principles. Consider the powerful words of Peter Medawar:

"...the alternative to thinking in evolutionary terms is not to think at all."

Can Organisations now rise to the scientific and game-changing challenge and survive?
